KCALL Member Minutes

January 4, 2000


The meeting was called to order by President Greg McNown who began by announcing the new Executive Board member and elected officers. These are Vice President/President elect: Tranne Pearce, U.S. Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, Missouri Branch. Treasurer: Linda Roser, Jackson County Law Library. Secretary: Glenn Higley, University of Missouri-Kansas City Law Library. Board member: Deanna Long, Armstrong, Teasdale, L.L.P.

The Executive Board report (see attachment) was read followed by the Treasurer's year end report (see attachment), Program Committee report (see attachment) and the Technology/Union List committee report.

Updating of the Union List and its placement on the KCALL website were discussed.

President McNown acknowledged the success of the Kansas City MAALL conference and gave his thanks to all involved.

The KCALL Gavel was then passed to the new President Janet McKinney who presented outgoing President McNown with a gift.

President McKinney announced that Barbara Fullerton will continue as chair of the Technology/Union List committee and Susan Duede will be the new Program committee chair.

Possible projects for 2000 were discussed with the Union List updating and its placement online raised as an important project for the year.

The 501(c)(6) income tax exempt status of KCALL was discussed.

The need for the board to discuss by-laws issues regarding succession of board members and filling board vacancies was raised.

A sign-up sheet for hosting of 2000 KCALL meetings was circulated.

It was raised that approximately one half of the KCALL membership are subscribed to the KCALL listserve. It was suggested that a mailing be sent to call for the remaining members to subscribe.

A call for program ideas for the year was made with Susan Duede to be contacted.

It was suggested that the board set up a calling tree to encourage past members to renew their membership and to inquire as to why they have been inactive.

It was proposed that the KCALL Executive Board members be announced to the KCMBA and other publications and organizations. The suggestion was made that KCALL get involved in other local legal organizations.

President McKinney then concluded the meeting and announced that it would be followed by a brief meeting of the Executive Board to set a January meeting date.
