KCALL Member Minutes

March 15, 2001

The March 15, 2001 meeting was held at the Westport Public Library.  Members present were:

 The meeting was called to order by President Tranne Pearce.

Approval of the January 11th minutes was postponed due to their unavailability.  A draft of the minutes to be posted to the website.

 The Treasurers’ report was distributed by Treasurer Linda Roser, giving a current balance of $1,982.24.  The 2001 Budget of $2,010.00 to be distributed as follows:

              Executive Board    $200.00
              Programs                500.00
              Technology             500.00
              Reserve                  800.00                 

 Mike McReynolds discussed the current status of the Union List and the problems with updating the list and getting it online. Anyone with advice or technical expertise, please contact Mike. In the meantime, member firms should be working on updating their holdings on the old list in preparation for the new one.

 Linda Roser has sent the new Membership Directory to Nancy Stancel to post on the website. The bylaws will also be posted.

 New committee members were announced by President Pearce.

The Program Committee of Janet Peters and Janice Jones.  The Technology Committee is composed of Nancy Stancel, Joan Thomas and Lissa Lord.  Mike McReynolds and Susan Duede are the Bylaws Committee.

 It was reported that the Technology Committee will be meeting next week at UMKC for web page update training.

 Mike McReynolds reported for the Bylaws Committee.  He and Susan Duede are working on drafting new bylaws, mainly dealing with elections and how bylaws are to be changed.  They are looking at the AALL bylaws as a guide. 

 Ruth Gervais reported that the Children’s Book Drive, being sponsored in conjunction with the KCMBA-Young Lawyers Section, would be held again this year from April 1 through April 30th.  She will be distributing posters and marketing materials to those participating.  Ruth requested that anyone knowing of a charity that would like to have books donated to them, please let her know.  Books should be collected in paper boxes and those books in poor shape or with inappropriate material should not be sent.

 Future meetings: Tranne Pearce announced the May 22nd meeting will be held at Armstrong, Teasdale.  A decision needs to be made about the location for the August meeting.  It has been proposed that it be held at the Hereford House.  Members to be polled to see how they feel.

 Camille Reynolds reported on attending the Information Innovators Institute in Naples, Florida that was given by Westlaw.

She reported that it was an excellent program with good, relevant content.  Please contact her if interested in seeing the information she brought back from the Institute.

 Tranne adjourned the business meeting and introduced Janet Peters who presented a very entertaining & informative video presentation (with member participation) on “Liberating Creativity and Innovation in the Workplace”.

 Before adjourning the meeting, Tranne thanked Polsinelli for providing the deserts and new member Susan Sanders of Wallace, Sauders in Overland Park introduced herself.
